2018 Community Engagement Program – Asian American and Pacific Islander Constituency Organizing Manager

Position Summary:

The California Democratic Party (CDP) seeks an experienced Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Constituency Organizing Manager for the CDP 2018 Statewide Campaign Program. The candidate should have experience in grassroots/field organizing, community engagement, voter engagement and outreach, coalition building, and communications and/or media relations with specific focus working in the AAPI communities. Strong self-direction and the ability to take initiative are necessary qualifications. The AAPI Constituency Organizing Manager will work with all CDP Departments. The position reports to the CDP Community Engagement Director and the CDP Political Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement a comprehensive AAPI outreach and engagement plan with metrics with CDP Senior Staff and CDP Political Department
  • Collaborate with CDP Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, CDP Filipino American Caucus, and other Caucuses; CDP Regional Directors; CDP Voter Services Committee; County Parties; Democratic clubs/organizations; and the CDP Political Department to strengthen intra-party relationships, engage in Party-building activities and events, and community organizing
  • Work with the CDP Political Department and the CDP Operations Department to promote and provide Party resources support to the intra-party organizations, such as training; grassroots voter registration/Bounty Program; Mobilize, Organize, Elect (MOE) voter file system, Hustle, VoterCircle, and other available resources
  • Build coalitions and strategic partnerships with allied organizations in key targeted areas to strengthen relations with the CDP and to collaborate on community organizing and engagement
  • Work with the Communications Director, the Creative Director, and the Political Director on earned media outreach, digital outreach, messaging, and the production of outreach materials, including in-language and culturally sensitive components
  • Work with the CDP Departments and the campaign team to develop and maintain an ongoing surrogate speaker program
  • Engage with the CDP Departments and the campaign team to provide general support to legislative campaigns in key areas
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive database of key community contacts statewide
  • Frequent traveling is required
  • Provide support the CDP campaign program and outreach programs as needed

Qualities and Qualification Requirements:

  • Strong task management aptitude and/or demonstrated skills
  • Possess demonstrated skills at setting and communicating priorities
  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Strong writing, analytical, and public speaking skills
  • Bilingual skills with fluency in an Asian language a plus
  • Deadline-oriented and detail-oriented while managing responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Be willing to contribute to the team effort by performing other tasks as needed
  • Understanding of the Democratic Party structure
  • Understanding of general policy issues, community dynamics, and cultures relating to the AAPI communities
  • At least 3 years of experience in grassroots or community organizing, field organizing, communications and/or media relations in AAPI communities
