A Message From ASDC President Ken Martin

Headshot of Ken Martin

The 57 Democratic state parties are the backbone of our movement to build a better future for our nation. The work of winning future elections does not begin a few months before Election Day. It does not even begin after the last election ends. It takes years of planning, training, and organizing in cities, towns, and counties across our nation to elect bold leaders that will fight to ensure everyone has the opportunity to get ahead and stay ahead.

Our Democratic state parties are the ones tasked with the essential work of building the political infrastructure needed to win at the ballot box and turn our values into public policy that improves people’s lives. It is a tremendous honor to have been reelected by my peers to support and strengthen our Democratic states parties and the critical work they do.

As I mentioned, our work is already underway to win the next elections, grow our movement, and knock down the barriers to success that stand in the way of too many Americans, particularly members of historically marginalized communities. That’s no small task, but I know Democrats are up to the challenge.

With leaders like DNC Chair Jamie Harrison and the incredible officers, grassroots activists, and volunteers who make up our 57 state Democratic parties, I know there is nothing we cannot accomplish. I look forward to working side by side with my fellow state party chairs and the terrific leaders at the Democratic National Committee to tackle the challenges we face and build back better for our nation.

ASDC mission statement

Strong State Democratic Parties are vital to the success of the Democratic Party in the United States of America. The ASDC is the only national party organization focused exclusively on the current and future needs of State Democratic Parties, assisting them to fulfill their vital role.

The ASDC’s mission is to help build strong State Democratic Parties in order to elect Democrats at all levels of office. To accomplish this goal, the ASDC focuses on building strong, stable, and sustainable infrastructure for all 57 State Parties. It acts as a service organization dedicated to supporting and educating its members, building strong relationships with and among State Parties, and using training to equip our members with the tools and skills they need to succeed.

Located within the Democratic National Committee, the ASDC represents State Party interests at the DNC, as well as within the wider Democratic and progressive ecosystem. The Association engages in this critical work to ensure that State Parties have the tools and resources they need to elect those who share our values, will make a difference in our communities, and will improve people’s lives.

ASDC membership

The ASDC is comprised of all state chairs and vice chairs from the 50 states, as well as American Samoa, District of Columbia, Democrats Abroad, Guam, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
